Description

The Ephrata Cloister community was a unique blend of celibate men and women, together with married couples, living in northern Lancaster County.  While the community has gained a reputation for many of their products, one skill often overlooked is clockmaking.  This book examines the seven members of the Cloister who produced many fine tall case clocks.  In addition to the clockmakers, at least two were joiners known fro making their own cases.  The celibate men also made a number of clock cases in their wood shop.  The Clocks of the Cloister takes a clear look at these skilled artisans and some of their products.  A paperback version of The Clocks of the Cloister is sold exclusively at the Museum Store at the Historic Ephrata Cloister for $8.00 apiece. Shop there in person or at http://www.ephratacloister.org.  You can also download a PDF version here for the same price.  All proceeds benefit the Ephrata Cloister Associates.
